When To Call & What To Report

Only call 911 in an emergency when immediate action is required such as a fire burning out of control,
an unresponsive person, or an in-progress crime situation.

Call 911 if you see a fire burning out of control. Don’t assume it has already been reported, doing so may delay response from firefighters. In an emergency situation every second counts.

When calling 911:

1. Be calm and talk clearly.
2. State your location and briefly describe the nature of the call (i.e. fire, car accident, drowning)
3. Let the 911 operator direct the conversation.
4. Stay on the line until directed otherwise.
