Firefighter Training & Employment

Beginning firefighters will receive beginning wildland firefighter training.  Firefighters will learn about Incident Command Systems, Wildfire Suppression, Environmental Factors Affecting Wildfire, and entry-level firefighting skills.  These skills include: instructions on safety, tools, fire equipment, use of maps and compasses, scouting, hazardous materials, and line construction.  Part of this training will involve field exercises.

Firefighters will learn firefighting standards for wildfire survival.  This includes training on fire shelter deployment, identification of safety zones and escape routes, and studies on situations with potential danger to firefighters.  Included in this instruction is the study of the Ten Standard Fire Orders and Eighteen Watch-out Situations.
